For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. (Matthew 24:21-22)
Every time I read this scripture, I think of Brett “The Hitman” Hart. (LOL)
I believe the great tribulation was all said and done in the 1st century. Our futurist friends believe it is yet future. Sadly, our futurist friends are calling for a round 2 of “the best there is, best there was, and the best there will ever be.”
Sadly, some futurists label preterism to be “very antisemitic.” Not true! Funny coming from people who believe in a “ROUND 2” of 70 ad. Not only a “ROUND 2,” but mass deaths that go beyond the scope of the great tribulation and what it was intended to be. Oh don’t let me forget, you won’t even be apart of the great tribulation due to the rapture. So how can you want to be friends with Israel but believe a 19th century teaching that places them in harms way? So you really want to play that card?
“Estimates of end times deaths are based on the assumption that 1/4 of the world’s population will die during the seal judgments. This comes from an interpretation of Rev. 6:8 where Death and Hades are given power over 1/4th of the earth to kill by the sword, famine, plague, and wild beasts. If 1/4th of the Earth refers to the population count, that leaves 3/4ths of the population still alive at the end of the Seal Judgments. In Rev. 9:15 the four angels of the Euphrates are released to kill 1/3rd of the remaining population. If you know your fractions, you know that 1/3 of 3/4ths is 1/4th. 1/4th (Seals) plus 1/4th (Trumpets) equals 1/2. Therefore between the Seal and Trumpet judgments 1/2 of the population alive at the beginning of Daniel’s 70th Week will have died before the Great Tribulation even begins. We’re not told how many die during the Bowl judgments, but certainly there will be many more. That said, I think the 2/3rds reference comes from Zechariah 13:8-9 where the Lord says in the whole land 2/3rds will be struck down and perish, and the 1/3 who are left will be brought into the fire. This refers to Israel. The phrase “the fire” is thought to be the refiner’s fire, a name sometimes given to the Great Tribulation. That means 2/3rds of the Jewish people will die sometime before the Great Tribulation begins.” (gracethrufaith.com)
Wow, 2/3rds of Jews die before the great tribulation begins plus billions of others around the world based on an assumption!!!!!!! Ouch! Some friend you are! I have to say I have more respect for those who hold the belief in historicism due to the fact they apply various parts of the book of Revelation to different points in time throughout history as compared to futurism who crams everything in a 7 year period resulting in billions of deaths.
Futurism= Major overkill crammed in a 7 year period. (Deaths into the billions)
Preterism= 3.5 years, 1st century, 1.1 million dead via Josephus, temple destroyed, old covenant over. All done!
For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (Luke 21:22-24)
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (Daniel 12:1)
Interestingly, this event demands a resurrection!
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel 12:2)
This ties in with the shattering of the holy people!
And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. (Daniel 12:7)
Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. (Jeremiah 30:7)
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. (Matthew 23:36)
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. (Matthew 24:34)
The great tribulation is apart of these “things.”
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. (Matthew 24:21)
The great tribulation had to been in the 1st century. Period!
Part 2 soon.
