I felt that I needed to add more. Welcome to “Part 4” lol.
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thess 2:1-4)
Do you really see these Christians believing my next two statements?
Futurist: A rapture and physical resurrection before the great tribulation with Mr. Antichrist who by the way is worshiped by mixed Jews of the 21st century in a rebuilt temple ?
Classic Eschatology: Pope (LOL)
Let’s focus on the mindset of these particular Christians at Thessalonica. They believed the “DOL” came. Leaves me with a few questions.
Futurists: Does it look like they really believed they missed the rapture? Does it really look like they saw all the graves opened?
Classic: Based on 2 Peter 3:10, everything would be burned up. They were still there. We are still here! (LOL) Where is the 1,000 year reign as premillennialism suggests? Where is the Pope?
Let’s continue you on.
2 things needed to happen before the “DOL”:
- Falling away or Rebellion
- Man of sin
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (Matthew 24:5)
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. (Matthew 24:9-12) (Not only effecting those of the faith, but of the Jewish community)
As for the “man of sin,” he has to be Jewish! (high priest)
…it is a custom of our country, that no one should take the high priesthood of God but he who is of the blood of Aaron, while every one that is of another stock, though he were a king, can never obtain that high priesthood. Accordingly, the number of all the high priests from Aaron, of whom we have spoken already, as of the first of them, until Phanas, who was made high priest during the war by the seditious, was eighty-three…(Antiquities of the Jews)
Now the people were come to that degree of meanness and fear, and these robbers to that degree of madness, that these last took upon them to appoint high priests. So when they had disannulled the succession, according to those families out of which the high priests used to be made, they ordained certain unknown and ignoble persons for that office, that they might have their assistance in their wicked undertakings; for such as obtained this highest of all honors, without any desert, were forced to comply with those that bestowed it on them…
These men made the temple of God a strong hold for them, and a place whither they might resort, in order to avoid the troubles they feared from the people; the sanctuary was now become a refuge, and a shop of tyranny. They also mixed jesting among the miseries they introduced, which was more intolerable than what they did; for in order to try what surprise the people would be under, and how far their own power extended, they undertook to dispose of the high priesthood by casting lots for it, whereas, as we have said already, it was to descend by succession in a family. The pretense they made for this strange attempt was an ancient practice, while they said that of old it was determined by lot; but in truth, it was no better than a dissolution of an undeniable law, and a cunning contrivance to seize upon the government, derived from those that presumed to appoint governors as they themselves pleased.
Hereupon they sent for one of the pontifical tribes, which is called Eniachim, and cast lots which of it should be the high priest. By fortune the lot so fell as to demonstrate their iniquity after the plainest manner, for it fell upon one whose name was Phannias, the son of Samuel, of the village Aphtha. He was a man not only unworthy of the high priesthood, but that did not well know what the high priesthood was, such a mere rustic was he ! yet did they hail this man, without his own consent, out of the country, as if they were acting a play upon the stage, and adorned him with a counterfeit thee; they also put upon him the sacred garments, and upon every occasion instructed him what he was to do. This horrid piece of wickedness was sport and pastime with them, but occasioned the other priests, who at a distance saw their law made a jest of, to shed tears, and sorely lament the dissolution of such a sacred dignity.(Wars of the Jews)

One has to understand the “already but not yet” in scripture. William Bell does a great job in explaining it.
If you want to get really deep in the “already but not yet,” watch the 64 video playlist with Don Preston lol.
Christ is our High Priest. (See Hebrews 8) He is also the sacrifice. (See Hebrews 10) Who was the last high priest leading up to the destruction of the temple at the end of the age? Phannias Ben Samuel. (67-70 AD) Did you catch the power in this? (LOL) Phannias was in a position he shouldn’t of been in along with the Zealots!
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2nd Thess 2:4)
What we know about Phannias:
“He was a man not only unworthy of the high priesthood, but that did not well know what the high priesthood was, such a mere rustic was he ! yet did they hail this man, without his own consent, out of the country, as if they were acting a play upon the stage, and adorned him with a counterfeit thee; they also put upon him the sacred garments, and upon every occasion instructed him what he was to do. This horrid piece of wickedness was sport and pastime with them, but occasioned the other priests, who at a distance saw their law made a jest of, to shed tears, and sorely lament the dissolution of such a sacred dignity.” (Josephus)
You remember the movie “Puppet Master?” (Here are the Zealots lol)
The Zealots set up their own high priest and ran the temple through the high priest.
“The son of perdition – Ὁ υἱος της απωλειας· The son of destruction; the same epithet that is given to Judas Iscariot, Joh_17:12 (note). The son of perdition, and the man of sin, or, as some excellent MSS. and versions, with several of the fathers, read, ανθρωπος της ανομιας, the lawless man, see 2Th_2:8, must mean the same person or thing. It is also remarkable that the wicked Jews are styled by Isaiah, Isa_1:4, בנים משחיתים benim mashchithim, “children of perdition;” persons who destroy themselves and destroy others.” (Adam Clarke)
The Zealots are the children of perdition that set up their own son of perdition in the temple. Did you catch the power in that? (LOL) He is they and they are he! They controlled him but he didn’t control them. (LOL)
The abomination = The “Zealots” and the “high priest” in the temple and land. God’s instrument of judgment = Roman army (foreign abomination) to desolate what those “Zealots” had done. (Along with other sins of the nation too)
